5 Must-Bring Items for Disney Trip

“I’m Going to Disney World!”

Do you remember after the Super Bowl in 1987, when Phil Simms, the quarterback of the New York Giants, was asked, “Phil Simms, you’ve just won the Super Bowl, what are you doing next?”  And his answer was, “I’m gonna go to Disney World!”  I can remember this moment like it was yesterday.  And after all these years, this advertising campaign still sticks with me.  “Mamma, you’ve had two kids, built a home with your husband, and worked several jobs to maintain it all.  What are you doing next?” some random voice in my head states.  “I’m going to Disney World,” I chant around the house.  (Yes, my kiddos do think I’m a bit nuts sometimes.)

Are you going to Disney World too?

If so, I bet you share the same amount of excitement that I have for the journey ahead.  As a child and adolescent, I was fortunate enough to go to Disney World several times.  However, this will be my first Disney adventure as a mother.  Just like all moms know, preparation is key to success on adventures like this one.

As I’m sure you are doing right now, I scoured the web for all of the tips and tricks that we’ll need to make this vacation the Best One Ever.  During my research, I found all of the “normal” suggestions, like bring your water in the park with you to save money and make sure to carry ponchos.  (That reminds me; I still need to pick up those ponchos…  I found these cute ones with a carrying case for my kiddos here, what do you think?)

While the ponchos are extremely important, since I really don’t want to be carrying a change of clothes for both of my children around the parks.  Believe it or not, there are some things that I was surprised to find out that I needed to bring with us.  Since they took me so long to find, I thought I could save you some time by posting them here.

#5 Portable Charger

<–  Aibocn Portable Charger at Amazon for Just $10.99 (Super Find!)

Thank goodness for my bestie, or I would’ve totally missed this.  You must bring a portable charge with you into the park, if you plan to use your cell all day!  Even if you purchased the Memory Maker (You know, this is the service where Disney cast members take your family photos, and YOU actually get to be in the photos.  For a $149 advanced per purchase (at the time of publishing), most moms agree that this is well worth it.), you will still want to use your phone for weather updates and the My Disney Experience App.  There are countless options for this on Amazon.  This is the one that was personally recommended to me, and I must say, it is perfect.

This is the Aibocn 10000mAh Power Bank Portable Charger for Phone Tablet with Flashlight, Grey right now, it is listed for $10.99 each.  Considering that this item is going to save us a ton of hassle, I purchased two of them: one for his bag and one for mine. I’m pretty psyched about this bargain, just $22 for peace of mind.  I’ll take it.

#4 Standing-in-Line Games

Yes, I know that you’ll have your phones (since they will be charged!) to keep you entertained while you wait in line, but wouldn’t it be nice to actually enjoy the family time in line too?  When I heard this suggestion, I was over the moon about it.  Why not play games in line?  Here are some of my favorite choices for in line (and car ride) games.

<— Loaded Questions Junior, at Amazon for $8.36.  (This game is so much fun.  This game works for school-aged children.  It’s not great for preschool or younger children.) However, if you do have older children, play this game!  You might actually learn something new about your sidekick. 🙂

<— Heads Up! App at Amazon its Free.  (You can download this for the iPhone too!) This game comes as a recommendation from another one of my girls.  She swears by it, even for smaller children (they just might need you to read the words for them).  Last time she was in Disney, she say her group was having such a good time playing this that people all around started to download it too.  🙂

<— Games on the Go, Only $7.54 on Amazon! These are fast games that can be play for just a couple of minutes, if needed, and they work for children of all ages. My son received this product as a pre-vacation gift.  We’ve had quite a few giggles with it so far.  Personally, I love the key ring and portability of it.

Do you have other games that you play in the parks?  If so, please share in the comments!

#3 Bubble Gum

Speaking of waiting in line, I don’t know about your kids, but mine get a little bit restless during long waits.  Of course, I will have healthy snacks on hand, but every now and then a piece of chewing gum buys me 5 extra minutes of peace.  Did you know that you can’t purchase gum inside of the Walt Disney World property?  (No, complaints here, because I get it from a property management standpoint.) However, you can bring the gum in with you.

I’m planning to purchase a couple of those large packs and just keep one pack with me a day.  If it ends up in my children’s mouths, I will make sure it is disposed of properly.  (I get so grossed out when I see gum stuck under a table (or anywhere that isn’t a garbage can!).

Perhaps I’ll get my guys this kind, it’s their favorite! 🙂

Do you remember this gum? It’s only $14.25 for 200 pieces.  Come to think of it, I might purchase this for baseball season! 🙂

#2 Target Gift Cards

With all of the anxieties about the wait times in the parks conquered, let’s move on to my biggest anxiety for a trip like this one: the price!  Are you like me and always looking for a way to save a few dollars (without taking a million pointless surveys or logging every single purchase you make into an app)?

If so, then this is a tip for you.  Did you know that you can purchase Disney Gift Cards at Target for 5% OFF just by using your Target Red Card (You can sign up for the Debit Card option, if the Credit Card option is not for you…).  Disney Gift Cards can be used to pay for your room, parking, food, gifts, etc., right at Walt Disney World.  If you purchase a $100 Disney Gift Card with your Target Red Card, you will only pay $95.  I’ve met quite a few people who purchase these gift cards throughout the year, as a way to save for their vacation.

Since you are probably going to save for your vacation AND go to Target several times throughout the year, this technique is really a must.

#1 Amazon Prime Membership

Speaking of saving money, do you have an Amazon Prime Membership yet?  If not, what are you waiting for? I’m literally so psyched about this tip.  You can save so much money with it, let me explain…

I know that you already know to bring your drinks with you inside of the park, but did you know that you don’t have to lug all those drinks down to Disney with you? Or worse yet, rent a car just so you get to a nearby grocery store. (By all means, rent that car, so you can travel around Orlando for fun reasons!  However, renting a car to do chores on vacation, heck no!)

Here’s the deal, in just 2 hours!, Amazon will delivery drinks, snacks, and other selections right to your resort door.  You read that right:  TWO HOURS!  For $99/year or $10.99/month, you can get this convenience (Amazon Prime Now, which is part of the Amazon Prime Membership) while at your resort in the Walt Disney World area (meaning, this works for resorts that are off property too! Woot! Woot!).  BONUS: If 2 hours is too long of a wait for you, you can pay an extra fee of $7.99 and have your items delivered in 1 hour!  Yes, 1 hour!

When I heard about this, I thought, “OK, well, they’ve jacked up the prices on the items, so it won’t be worth it.”  However, I was so wrong, I think the item prices are reasonable and certainly much less than what you are going to pay inside of Walt Disney World.  For instance, I found a case (24) of water for $4.99 and a 12-pack of 12 oz cans of Coca Cola for just $4!

<—– Just $4.99! (For a case of 24 bottles of Aquafina 16.9 oz)

Think about this amazing savings for your family!

If you are a family of 4, and you each bought 3 bottles of water inside the park (@ approximately $3 each) that would equate to $36 per day, just on water.  Multiply that by 5 days in the parks, and you are looking at spending $180! Verses spending $14.97 (plus applicable taxes, if there is sales on water) on the above water; this would leave you with an in-park savings of $165!  Which means that on just the water alone, you could purchase Amazon Prime for $99, purchase your water for inside of the park and still have $65 left over to spend on whatever you like!

(I think I might spend my savings on this cooler backpack.  This way I can freeze some bottles of water and keep them cool all day.) With the easy access for one of the beverages and plenty of room for snacks, I’m close to grabbing one of these.  It’s $37 at Amazon.  Does anyone out there have any experience with this product? It’s called the Picnic Time ‘Turismo’ Insulated Backpack Cooler.

Plus, the savings are really endless, so how can you say no to this convenience?  What’s more, you can start your Amazon Prim membership for FREE!  Yes, it’s true!  Amazon will give you all the benefits of Prime for one-month.  Why?  Because they know you will love it so much that you will never want to quit!  Check out my referral link below. 🙂 Free! Free! Free!

With all of this chanting, I’m sure you can feel the excitement mounting in my home!  Are your kids staring at you like you’re crazy yet?  Well, if they are, I think you’re on the right path!  If you’ve just started your vacation planning, and have questions about anything Disney, be sure to check out DisBoards.com.  This site hosts lively discussions about everything Disney!  Also, if you are looking for a good Disney vacation podcast to subscribe to, download the DisUnplugged series, which features timely Disney information in a light-hearted style.

Now, here’s my question to you:  Did I miss anything?  If I did, please let me know in the comments below, so I can add it to this list.  🙂

Mamma, now that you’ve written this epic blog post that will save your friend time and energy, what are you gonna do now?  …wait for it… “I’m going to DISNEY WORLD!!!” (crowd cheers!)  😉
